Bronze Age Society

In the Bronze Age we find the first use of metal in Norway. Bronze is a mixture of copper and tin. The first bronze objects come from abroad, but eventually people here learn to melt bronze themselves. In the Bronze Age, we still find many tools made of stone in use. During this period we begin to see  greater division between the poor and the rich. Some become bigmen or chiefs. When these die, great burial mounds are built. They often have rich contents that show the wealth and power of the person buried there.
